Peking, November 26, 1906. INDEMNITY. The contention of the Shanghae Taotai concerning interest on payments of principal (sec Mr. Carnegie's despatch No. 297 of the 10th July last) is now supported by the Chinese Government, who have addressed me officially on the question.
The subject is to be considered by the Representatives of the foreign Powers on the 30th instant; I should be glad to learn, therefore, whether His Majesty's Govern- ment supports Mr. Carnegie's view.
